Füreya Exhibition

Füreya Exhibition

Born in Istanbul in 1910, Füreya Koral began her artistic career rather late in life when she was admitted to a sanatorium in Switzerland in 1947. After her treatment, she moved to Paris to meet Georges Serré, a prominent ceramicist during that period, and worked in various ceramic workshops based on his recommendation. Having manufactured innumerable objects with different techniques throughout her life, Koral came to the attention of the art world when she integrated wall ceramics to architecture.

Uniquely blending eastern and western cultures, Koral was passionate about Mediterranean turquoise. Comprising nearly 200 of her works, the exhibition is curated by Károly Aliotti, Nilüfer Şaşmazer, and Farah Aksoy. Organized by Kale Group the exhibition offers an unprecedented perspective for Füreya’s artworks who is against the imprisonment of art in museums. Kale Group President and CEO Zeynep Bodur Okyay commented on the exhibition by saying, “The exhibition’s first goal was to commemorate, to understand and to talk about Füreya Koral on the 20th anniversary of her death because she was an inspiring role model who breathed, was reborn and dedicated her life to ceramics.”
